About the project
The project concerns the revival of the historical building of the Eleftherotypia newspaper at N. Kosmos, the modernization of the building’s exterior spaces and the renovation of its interior spaces. The open space of the building is redesigned in order to organize circulation and connect uses, promoting outdoor activities and social interaction. Materials specified for open spaces and terraces have high reflectance or are vegetated areas, to reduce the urban heat island effect. An extensive planted roof is provided on the ground floor open space utilizing indigenous plants, with low irrigation needs. In addition, the new fixtures and fittings with reduced water consumption have been installed. The project improves the energy performance of the existing building. The construction retains the load-bearing structure and by this reduces the carbon footprint of the redevelopment. The building is taking advantage of the natural light and uses daylight sensors for light control.
