About the project

The project is a multi-storey office building in the city of Athens in Greece. Main parameters of the design were the efficient use of energy, water, and other resources. The green roof adds reduces the air intake temperature in summer, saving energy and avoiding the urban heat island effect. The irrigation system uses rainwater and air-conditioning condensate, in addition Mediterranean plants which require less water, have been chosen. The green areas of the plot provide biodiversity and habitat to local fauna, which has a special provision for plants that attract bees. The building features an innovative air conditioning system, with fan coils, thereby reducing the environmental impact of the refrigerants. The system uses for the first time in Europe the specific equipment that allows for evaporative cooling with water sprayed on the heat exchanger, to maximize energy efficiency in high summer temperatures. In order to avoid the use of potable water, the process relays on air conditioning condensate, which is gathered at the same time, from the interior of the building. A seven m3 tank provides for the storage of sufficient water.
